Jesse C. Andrew III

West Point - Jesse (Josh) Charles Andrew III, 74, of West Point, passed away on November 10, 2021, holding the hands of his wife and children.

He was born in Lafayette on March 18, 1947, to the late Jesse and Muriel Andrew of West Point, Indiana. He was the oldest child of a farming family and grew up going to the creek, Lake Freeman, and causing havoc with his younger brother Jim and sister Ellie. He graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1965 and Purdue University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture. Before transferring to Purdue, he attended Ball State University where he was a varsity swimmer. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

After graduating, he married the love of his life, Carol Eblen Andrew, in 1970 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. They made the Washington, D.C. area their home, and he worked for the Environmental Protection Agency where he received the Outstanding Youth Achievement Award.

Josh and Carol moved back to Indiana in 1975 to manage the family farm. He immersed himself in the farming business, and eventually became interested in computer technology and its impact on agriculture and farm management. He grew traditional crops, raised livestock, and became one of the first farmers to plant sunflowers in the State. He continued to consult on landscape architecture and built a skillset in city planning and economic development. This led to a job with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He was also admitted into the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy's Resources for the Future Institute in Washington, D.C., and was selected to be a member of the first class of the Indiana Institute of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition. His final career stop was as the Director of Development for the City of West Lafayette, a position he held for over 20 years. During his tenure, he managed the development of the Levee and the Purdue Village area, among other projects for the City.

Josh was active in community events and an avid bicyclist, competing in both track and road races in his earlier days. He had a great interest in boating, fly fishing, and photography, and incorporated these hobbies into many family vacations over the years. Although quiet in nature, he was an enthusiastic father of Erin and Jesse and did not shy away from embarrassing them with cheers during youth swim meets and sporting events. He valued the friendships he had over shared laughs, a good beer, and a fishing rod in hand. Josh was an inspiration to his children and left them with a strong foundation of love and many wonderful stories and memories.

Josh is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Andrew; his daughter Erin Andrew (Jason Hickman) of Alexandria, Virginia; and his son Jesse C. Andrew IV (C'Koh) of West Point, Indiana; his grandchildren, Allen Andrew, Charlie Andrew, Maeve Hickman and Jack Hickman; his brother James Andrew (Laura) of Lafayette, Indiana; and his sister Elizabeth Andrew (John Kipp) of Long Beach, California.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 20,2021 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. A livestream of the service will be on Josh's obituary page at www.soller-baker.com. The family requests that those coming to the service wear face masks. Private interment will be at West Point Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tippecanoe County Historical Association or the West Point Volunteer Fire Department.
