Julie Lee Griffin Hoetker, passed away, with her family at her side,Tuesday, January 17. She was born June 16, 1941, in Blue Island, Illinois, to E. Glenn and Florence Marks Griffin.
She earned her bachelor of business administration degree from Washington University, St. Louis, in 1964, during which time she was the only female student in the program.
She worked as a buyer for Famous Barr department store in St. Louis, MO. Together with Kathryn Clevidence, she co-owned the Corner Grocery in Tuscola, IL, from 1974 to 1997. She worked at the Hillard Agency in Tuscola from 1995 until her passing.
She was committed to community service. She served the Tuscola Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years including a term as President from 1984-85 and an extended term as Secretary. She was Tuscola City Treasurer in 1994. She served as the Tuscola Mainstreet Board President from 1996-1998. She was a member of the Tuscola Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. She served on the Tuscola Area Improvement Association, Inc., from 1992-1997 and Tuscola Economic Development, Inc., from 1997-1999. She served on various committees for the Champaign County Association of Realtors and as President of the Douglas County Health Department.
She is survived by her partner of 40 years, Kathryn M. Clevidence; son, Glenn (Nancy) Hoetker of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers, Carl (Lynn) Griffin of West Lafayette, IN, and Mark Griffin of Grand Rapids, MI; sisters-in-law, Ruth Griffin of Bloomington, IL, Pat Griffin of Grand Rapids, MI, and Ina Griffin of Grand Rapids, MI; and grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole Hoetker.
She was predeceased by her mother, father, brother, Ross Griffin of Downs, IL, and nephew, Todd Griffin of Grand Rapids, MI.
Her family thanks the doctors and nurses at Carle Clinic for the expert and humane care they provided to her and her loved ones.
