Rita June Boyce Compton

West Lafayette - Rita June Boyce Compton, age 71, passed away while hospitalized in Plano, TX on January 26, 2019. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana July 13, 1947 to the late Raymond Boyce and Helen Hartman (Boyce) Ewing.

Rita attended Klondike High School and West Lafayette High School before graduating and going on to complete the Operating Room Technician School at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Rita always knew she wanted to work in healthcare. She became a Candy Striper as a teenager, later worked as a Nurse Aid and eventually became a Certified Surgical Technologist. She worked in surgery at St. Elizabeth Hospital, before taking time off to follow her husband in his Navy career and raise her two sons. Rita went to work at the Woman's Clinic in Lafayette, staying there for nearly 30 years, most of which was working for Dr. Thomas Downey.

Like many grandparents have done, she and her husband moved to Texas, where her sons lived, and to be near her only grandchild at the time. Rita developed some serious medical issues while living in Texas, but lived a full and happy life there, spending the last 10 years as a volunteer at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, which she loved. She will always be remembered for her warmth and beautiful smile.

Rita is survived by her husband Alan (Frisco, TX), son Bradley (Frisco, TX), son Greg and wife Alisa (Richmond, VA), grandson Daniel and granddaughter Jordyn.

Visitation will be open from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, with a service following on Friday February 1, 2019 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 N. 9th St., Lafayette, IN.
