West Lafayette - LOIS COHEN STEIN

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend died peacefully on January 2nd. During her 84 years on earth she was the driving force and true matriarch of our family. Those close to her knew she was always honest and out spoken, and you knew where you stood with her.

Lois was born in Lafayette to Max and Zelda Cohen and decided this was a city she was proud to call home. She attended Jefferson High School and graduated from West Lafayette High School. Lois attended Purdue. She married Donald J. Stein in 1953 and began a marriage that lasted 64 years until Don's death in 2017.

Lois is survived by her children Lori (Paul) Sabol, Terry Stein, Todd (Cathy) Stein; Grandchildren Kristen (Daryn) Peterson, Calvin (Cagney) Stein, Alex Sabol, Jarrod, Sydne and Zoe Stein; Great Grandchildren Zane and Axel Peterson and Koen and Dawson Stein; and sister Pam (Richard) Siegel. Preceded in death by her sister Mimi Gimble.

Her love of family spread far beyond her immediate family. Cousins, nieces, nephews and more came from all over the country to Indiana just to visit her. Everyone loved their "quality time with Grandma".

Lois always strived to make her community the best it could be. She gave generously both financially and with her time. Her favorite charities were Temple Israel, Purdue University, St. Ann's Soup Kitchen, and the local arts. Lois and Don were the inspiration and primary benefactors for the upcoming penguin exhibit at Columbian Park.

We will have a short service at Temple Israel on Saturday January 19th at 6:00 pm with a visitation starting at 5:00pm Per Lois' request a celebration of life party will follow. Please bring your favorite Lois story to share with us.

In lieu of flowers (Mom did not like flowers anyway) a donation to one of her favorite charities listed above would be greatly appreciated.
