Peter Jobusch

PETER LOMMEL JOBUSCH  

Died of lung cancer on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Peter was born April 24, 1948 in Lafayette, Indiana to Wallace and Martha Lommel Jobusch. He graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1966, and received a B.S. degree from Purdue University in 1969. He then served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Computer Systems instructor at Quantico, VA. From 1972 to 1981 he was a systems programmer at Purdue, and completed a M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. From 1981-83 he worked as a systems developer at SAS Institute in North Carolina. He then moved to the DC area, where he worked for the CIA, retiring in 2008 as the Senior Scientist for the Information Security Group. His expertise in computer systems and security was widely recognized both within the Intelligence Community and industry, so his insight and services were often sought by other organizations within the US government

 

A lifelong fan of railroads and urban transit systems, Peter enjoyed travel by rail in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. As a child he frequently rode the Wabash Cannonball to visit his grandparents. He collected model trains of many sizes but in recent years focused on outdoor railroading, especially small live steam powered locomotives. He spent countless hours helping friends construct and operate their large railroads while finding time to build his own track in the garden of his home in Rockville, MD.

 

Peter and his wife Carol combined their love of music, travel, and photography on eleven European choral concert tours with their friends, Kerry Krebill and Musikanten.

 

Peter was very active in his church, St. Patrick's Episcopal, as principal server and crucifer, a Diocesan Delegate and Vestry member. Peter had a deep concern for the needs of the poor, which was expressed in his support for outreach ministries. He aspired to the vocational diaconate, which Peter supported, not just for himself, but because the deacon's role in translating the needs of the world is needed in the Diocese.

 

Peter is survived by his wife, Carol Duddy de Branges Jobusch; his father, Wallace; his brother, Michael Frederick; his son, Michael Andrew and his granddaughter, Emelia Grace Jobusch. Also by his first wife, Carol Hurley Brown and her daughter, Amanda Brown. He also leaves his beloved dog, Woofgang Amadeus.

 

Peter's life will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4700 Whitehaven Parkway NW, Washington, DC 20007 on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. At the end of the service, his cinders and ashes will be interred in St. Patrick's bell tower.
