Julia Trost Yake, age 88, of Connersville, Indiana, died at Reid hospital in Richmond on January 16, 2017, where she had been a patient recently.

Born July 24, 1928, in Lafayette, she was one of five children of John F. and Frances Small Trost. Growing up in Lafayette, she attended Klondike School and graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1946. She received a B.A. degree in 1949 from DePauw University where she was a memeber of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society.

Julia moved to Connersville in September 1949 at the invitation of her sister Martha Trost for a job interview at Union Savings and Loan Association. Hired on as a teller, this became her career. After 35 years of service, many of which were served as Secretary-Treasurer, she took early retirement in the spring of 1985.

Julia was active in many clubs and organizations. She was a longtime member of Inter-Culture Club. She had been a member and past president of Altrusa service club and a member of Questers historical preservation club. For over thirty years she was a member of Fayette Garden Club, serving many years as treasurer. As a member of Historic Connersville, Inc., she spent many summers caring for the plants around the Canal House. Additionally, she had served as treasurer of the United Fund of Fayette County, and was on the board of trustees of Fayette Memorial Hospital for two terms from 1979 to 1985. In her later years, she was active in Kiwanis Club and was honored to be named 2015-2016 Kiwanian of the Year by the local chapter.

She was united in marriage with William H. Yake, August 24, 1974. Together they traveled extensively, visiting all 50 of the United States and over 50 foreign countries. Following their travels, Julia and Bill enjoyed presenting photo travelogues for the Friends of the Library and other local organizations. They also enjoyed recreational swimming in their retirement years. In addition to travel, Julia's primary hobbies were gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her stepchildren, son Daniel and partner Rick Brown of Richmond; daughter, Mrs. Meredith (Christy) Flautt, Jr.; seven Flautt grandchildren and six great grandchildren all of Franklin, Tennessee; nieces Sara Schneider Denow of Lyme, Connecticut; Karen Schneider Kanitz of Delaware, Ohio; Linda Trost Vitelli of Old Greenwich, Connecticut; Shawn Burwell Cole of Livingston, Montana, seven additional nieces and nephews, six cousins and sister-in-law, Marjorie Zepernick. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, who died April 19, 2015, her parents, brothers Donald and Fred Trost, sisters Martha T. Schneider and June T. Burwell, a nephew, John "Jay" Schneider and a cousin, Thomas T. Bauman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fayette Garden Club (c/o C. Robb, 1805 Virginia Ave., Connersville, IN 47331), or the Julia Yake Fund for City Beautification at the Fayette County Foundation (P.O. Box 844, Connersville, IN 47331).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23 at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, Connersville. Friends may call at 10 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
