Joan (Smith) Ruddy

Ruddy, Joan Smith 85, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014. She was born May 6, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1945 and went on to Purdue University. While at Purdue, Joan was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. July 30, 1949 Joan married Daniel J. Ruddy and moved to Aurora where she began her life's work as a loving wife and mother. Joan's social organizations included the Aurora Woman's Club, St. Anne's Society Unit 2 of Holy Angels Church, Mercy Center Auxiliary, the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Club and the Pan Hellenic Association of the Coachella Valley, California, where she wintered for twenty years. Mrs. Ruddy is survived by her son, Michael J. (Mary) Ruddy of Boulder, CO; three daughters, Carolyn Festner of Paso Robles, CA, Julie (Dennis) Corcoran of Schaumburg, IL and Susie (Matt) Laurich of Elgin, IL; nine grandchildren, Max (Christy) Ruddy of Highlands Ranch, CO, Matt (Heather) Ruddy of Centennial, CO, Jennifer (Phil) Costanzo of San Luis Obispo, CA, Lindsey Woodward of Paso Robles, CA, Sean Corcoran of Chicago, IL, Erin Corcoran of Schaumburg, IL, Matt Laurich of Minneapolis, MN, Joe and Emily Laurich of Elgin, IL; and four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Addison and Andrew Ruddy of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Madeleine Ruddy of Centennial, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Ruddy; parents, Thomas Randolph and Pauline (Caplinger) Smith of West Lafayette, IN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with a liturgical wake service at 6:30 p.m. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506. A funeral mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, corner of Lancaster and Hardin Avenues, Aurora, IL. Interment immediately following mass will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Aurora.
