Dr. Georg L. Rymph, 44
Dr. Georg L. Rymph, 44, of Bangor, Maine, died unexpectedly July 30 in Galle, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Rymph was a board-certified family practice specialist who worked as an inpatient care hospitalist at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He had been there since 2004. He previously worked for Dr. Toby Atkins, of Stillwater Family Medicine.
Born Jan. 15, 1968, Dr. Rymph grew up in West Lafayette and was a 1986 graduate of West Lafayette High School. He received his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Purdue University. He worked as a production potter for Santa Cruz Pottery, Santa Cruz, California for a year before returning to Purdue where he took pre-med courses and worked as a production potter for Black Dog Pottery and Scott Frankenberger in West Lafayette. He received his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York in 1999.
Dr. Rymph was an avid kayaker, mountain biker, and birdwatcher who had a deep and eclectic appreciation of music. He was a generous and loving doctor, friend, brother and son who brought a wonderful sense of curiosity to everything he did.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Raymond and Diane Rymph of Columbia, Mo.; his sister, Catherine E. Rymph; brother-in-law, Scott Southwick; niece, Polly Southwick; nephew, Linus Southwick, all of Columbia, Mo; and by the many friends, colleagues and patients for whom he made the world a more beautiful place.
A celebration of Dr. Rymph's life will be 5 p.m., Friday Sept. 21 at Mason Auditorium, Grant Tower, second floor, Eastern Maine Medical Center, 489 State St. Bangor, Maine.
