ANDERSON, LEE MARTIN 70 of Coral Gables, FL passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2018 due to complications from a fall at his home. He received degrees in Botany and Marine Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and worked at Fisher Island, Texas Instruments, and the U.S. Navy, before becoming superintendent at Montgomery Botanical Center (MBC) in Coral Gables FL, in 1995. Lee was predeceased by his brother Paul. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Vivian Jordan; his brother Van Anderson of West Lafayette, IN; his sister Jane Anderson Eberle (Brett) of South Portland, ME; his nephew Jacob Eberle (Caroline) of Brooklyn, NY; his niece Jocelyn Weidner (Barry) and their children Emma and Brady of Horsham, PA; and his nephew Clayton Eberle of Portland, ME. Memorial Service will be held at Montgomery Botanical Center on Sat. at 3 pm (June 23, 2018). 305-667-3800

Lee attended the University of Texas (Austin) on a full athletic scholarship and graduated with a degree in marine science and a minor in journalism. His team was the Southwest Conference champion in 1968 (SWC no longer exists); Texas Relays winner in 2-mile relay in 1968; and  U. Houston Relay winners in distance medley relay.

After graduation he formed the Austin Runners Club, and they won the Texas AAU cross-country championship.   Lee said"to this day have an avid interest in track and field, helping out with the University of Miami program,"  For his last 25 years he was the superintendent of the Montgomery  Botanical Center in Coral Gables, Florida, which strives to be world-class leaders in research, education, and conservation in the realm of tropical botanical botany.
