Vince Parman

Vince Robert Parman passed away on 1/1/07, in Raleigh, NC. He was 50 years old. He is survived by his widow, Joanne Leah Canganelli (Class of 1973), and daughter Julia Candace Parman McDonald, of Asheville, NC. He has two grandsons, Peyton and Gavin.

Vince had a BS and MS from Purdue University. He also had a PhD from North Carolina State University, and his thesis was on termite DNA.

Vince was in Field Development with Bayer Environmental Science, RTP, North Carolina.

In his illustrious career, he had worked for Union Carbide Ag, Rhone Poulenc, Aventis, and then with Bayer Corp. Because of his career, we were lucky enough to have lived in many fascinating places: Iowa, California, Mississippi, Brazil, France, and lastly in North Carolina.

Vince was a world class traveler, having traveled to Africa 3 times, Japan, Singapore, and all over Europe. In the U.S., he had traveled in all 50 states.

In his personal life Vince had many varied interests.  He was an avid gardener and loved the out of doors.  He was also into every kind of music. In fact, he still played his trumpet (Vince was in Marching Band and Jazz Band at WLHS), and played in a local Trumpet Trio. Vince also loved antiques, and we loved to go exploring, everywhere we traveled, to look at old treasures.

He is sorely missed by his family. Along with his wife and daughter, and grandsons, he is survived by his parents; Don and Nadyne Parman of West Lafayette and brother Steve ( Class of 1975), of Chattanooga, TN.

Lastly, there is an Endowment Lecture Series in Vince's honor every year at NCSU:
The Vince Parman Memorial Lecture Series in Entomology.   This is funded by his former employer, Bayer Corporation. Each year there is a guest Entomologist flown in to present a topic on Emtomological Pests. It is quite an honor to have this named after Vince!!!!
