Kenneth Metzger





Kenneth C. Metzger, 89, Anderson, died May 21, 2010, at Manor Care in Anderson following an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 11, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., and lived in Minneapolis, Minn., for a brief period. He relocated to West Lafayette, where he graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1938 and Purdue University in 1942 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He resided in Anderson since 1942.

He was employed by Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 39 years. He was a maintenance superintendent in several plants and a staff engineer in plant engineering retiring in 1981. 

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines as a member of the General Engineer District, which was formed to engineer and help oversee the rebuilding of Manila.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anderson, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Elks Club, longtime member of the Edgewood Country Club, the Purdue Alumni Association, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was an avid golfer and a diehard Chicago Cubs baseball fan. After retirement, he and his wife wintered in Naples, Fla., where they had many friends.     

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Louise (Gentry) Metzger, whom he married Aug. 20, 1943; two children, Linda (husband, Ted) Hill of Kokomo, and Larry Metzger and companion Christina Graham of Anderson; three grandchildren, Brian Cauble and companion Venus Walgate of Kokomo,  Brett (Shannon) Cauble of Lafayette, and Courtney (Chris) Cheever of Westfield; great-grandchildren,  Carly Nicole Cauble, and Erin Kate Cauble of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Irwin and Sarah (Cramer) Metzger; a brother, William I. Metzger; son-in-law, Dave Cauble; and a stepgrandson, David Hill.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with the Rev. Kaye Casterline officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church in Anderson.
