John Eddy




John R. Eddy, 71, of Anderson, died February 13, 2009 in Ft Myers, FL after an extended illness.

He was born December 13, 1937 in Tell City, Indiana. He graduated in 1955 from West Lafayette High School and 1959 from Purdue University.

He served his country as an officer in the United States Navy, stationed at the Naval Air Station in Millington, TN. He worked as an Industrial Engineer for General Motors, retiring in 1998 after 40 years of service. He became Director of Purdue University-Anderson, College of Technology, retiring in 2007.

He was a firm believer in faith and service to his family, church, and the greater community, always leading by example which meant so much to his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He was a proud member of the following organizations: First Presbyterian Church of Anderson where he currently served as clerk of the session; Sigma Chi Fraternity; Purdue Varsity basketball team (1955-1959), Varsity P Club, John Purdue Club; Presidents Council of Purdue, Purdue Musical Organizations Club; Anderson Rotary Club and Anderson Country Club. He was a President and member of the Board of Directors for the following: Indiana Public Radio; Management Club of Madison County; Anderson Education Foundation; the Longfellow Woods Rec-reation Association and the Purdue Club of Anderson and Madison County. He was a board member for the following: Hopewell Center; United Way of Madison County; Maplewood Cemetery Association; Purdue Sigma Chi House Corp.; Co-Chairman of the Saint John's/Sandi Patty Golf Classic; the Creedmoor Condominium Association; Anderson Community Aquatics Club; Edgewood Country Club and as the former Chairman of USA Swimming Officials for East Central Indiana, also serving as a swimming official at the 1987 Pan American Games and 1992 United States Olympic Trials.

He is survived by his wife, Sonya Stewart Eddy whom he married June 12, 1959. Sons: Jeffrey (Cheryl) Eddy of Anderson, John Andrew (Patricia) Eddy of Aurora, IL; Joel (Jennifer) Eddy of Okemos, MI. Ten Grandchildren: Jeffrey II, Jordan, Jillian, Leslie, Jack, Jacob, and Alexander Eddy, Kinsey, Whitney, and Cole Heberling: One great-grandson: Carson Jutte. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Martha Eddy of West Lafayette, IN and Sarah Eddy Harnett of Pebble Beach, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ray and Dorothy Eddy; father and mother in-law Dr. Albert P. and Charlotte Stewart.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 17th at the Robert Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory - South Chapel, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Wed. at the First Presbyterian Church.

Services will be Wednesday, February 18th at 10:30 am, at First Presbyterian Church, 230 West Ninth Street, Anderson, with Reverends David Comstock and Donna Madewell officiating.

Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
