David Russell Cook

David R. Cook

David Russell Cook, 61, of West Lafayette passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday evening, May 12, 2014, after hunting for mushrooms.

Dave was born on October 9, 1952 in Tippecanoe County, the son of the late Edward G. Cook and Doris L. (Clawson) Cook. He was raised in West Lafayette and attended school there through high school. Our brother was a kind and loving, spiritual Christian man. He dedicated his life to his love of God, preaching His words. Through Eckankar he studied and believed in all faiths. He was a fourth Initiate Eckist and with his passing has reached the highest plane. His spirit remains with us always.

His Hungarian Gypsy heritage combined with his youth's hippy spirit led to extensive travels throughout the United States. David was a gifted singer songwriter, composer of beautiful melodies and an accomplished guitarist. Not from a cookie cutter mold, he was an unforgettable character who never met a stranger.

David loved his family and friends, and was much loved, in return by them. He is survived by his sister, Jayne S. Cook, his brother, Edward D. Cook (wife, Lynn), nephews Karsten Cook, Edward Cook and David Diaz and his great-nieces and nephew.

Visitation Friday, May 16, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. The family requests no flowers and suggests visitors wear comfortable attire. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com
