"LARRY AND LEXIE SCHUMAN. Larry L. Schuman was born on January 21, 1938, the second son (following Everett) of Walter and Myrtle (Coyle) Schuman.   He was born and raised on his grandfather Grover's farm five and a half miles west of Columbia City on U. S. 30.

As a boy, Larry was active in 4-H and FFA and graduated form Larwill High School in 1956. He enrolled in Purdue University and completed degrees in Agricultural education and agricultural economics. While at Purdue, Larry met Lexie Ann Finch, from Lafayette, who he married on August 28, 1960. A variety of employment opportunities followed, each related to a service area of
agriculture. These included teaching high school vocational agriculture, animal feed sales, farm broadcasting at Elkhart, Indiana and association with Schrader Real estate and Auction Company beginning in 1980. Lexie was a piano teacher, vocalist and organist.

Following several moves during the early years of marriage, Larry and Lexie moved with their family of three sons at that time to the one hundred sixty-acre farm they purchased from Pearl Harman, six miles west of Columbia City on U.S. 30 in May 1972. A daughter and fourth son followed.

The children of Larry and Lexie include Keith, 1961; Duane, 1964; Nelson, 1967; Jana, 1977; and Christopher, 1980. the Schuman family was blessed with two of Whitely county's New Year's babies. Nelson was born on January 2, 1967 (actually during the second quarter of Purdue University's only Rose bowl appearance). Jana Dawn followed ten years later on January 1, 1977.

The three older boys followed the Schuman tradition by attending Purdue University. In addition to their education each actually started what turned out to be their life's work while at Purdue.

Keith worked part-time on a registered hog arm while at Purdue. Seeing the need for detailed swine record keeping, Keith began working with computers and formed a corporation called S&S Programming. Keith, recognized as a leading swine genetics computer programmer, works with swine breeding stock producers throughout the U. S. and in several foreign countries. He has had
major programming projects for purebred swine associations and other livestock associations.

Keith married Priscilla Bishop form Rhode Island. They have a son, Caleb, and a daughter, Tiffany, and reside in Lafayette.

Following his interest in sports and journalism, Duane worked for the sports department of the Purdue Exponent while earning his degree in the School of Management. After working in sports for two smaller newspapers, Duane then moved to the assistant sports editor position for the News Sentinel in Fort Wayne.

To assist his college finances at Purdue, Nelson worked two years for brother Keith gaining experience in sales by selling computer accounting programs to high schools. This led to a very successful career upon graduation, in sales for Banker Systems, selling computer programs and other products to banks and credit unions. Nelson married Melinda Burkhardt from Delphi, Indiana.

Their children are Jordon, Austin and Ashley.   Daughter Jana shares her mother's musical skills and is enrolled in Huntington College studying elementary education and music. Chris is completing his high school studies at Whitko.

The Schuman families attend the First Assembly of God in Fort Wayne and
Lafayette."
