Jim Segrist died in a Sunday morning, Aug. 17, 1978, automobile accident along Ind.
43 near Mascouten Park in West Lafayette. Two of his classmates were
also killed and a fourth was seriously injured.
**West Lafayette High School Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund was
established in 1978 in memory of James Segrist, Steven Tompkins, and
Richard Grace (Class of 1978). It now honors many former students,
staff, and friends of WLHS athletics. One or more scholarships,
depending on earnings, are awarded each year to student athletes
selected for their scholarship, athletic accomplishments, and
sportsmanship.
