Randall A. Rainey, 60



Randall A. Rainey, 60, of West Lafayette, IN, died at 6:54 PM Sunday October 9, 2011 at Seton Specialty Hospital.

He was born November 16, 1950, in Terre Haute, IN, to Gilbert L. and Olive L. Godwin Rainey.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War from October 6, 1971 to August 23, 1976.

He graduated from West Lafayette High School and
Purdue University in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Rainey owned and operated Learning Systems Inc. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. On May 13, 2005 he married Judith A. Neff in Ft. Wayne, IN and she survives.

He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, 42nd Michigan Civil war reenactment group. He enjoyed white water rafting and world travel.

Surviving are his wife Judith A. Rainey, West Lafayette, IN; daughter, Liv D. Rainey-Smith, husband Michael of Portland OR.; mother, Olive L. Godwin Rainey of West Lafayette, IN; brothers, William M. Rainey wife Jill of Austin, TX and Lester P. Rainey wife Beverly of Seneca, SC; and grandchildren, Daniel A. Demerly, Ethan J. Prescott and Jackson R. Prescott.

Memorial Service 2pm November 5th 2011 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Pastor Will Peugeot officiating. Preceded in death by his father, Gilbert L. Rainey. Family requests no flowers.

  1. Randy was a great guy and feel fortunate to have known him and to have visited him in the hospital one last time shortly before his death. He was central to our high school class, organizing our reunions, both the formal ones on the decade and less formal ones at Bruno's when someone happened to be back in town. Randy's life was changed by Vietnam. He came back clear and determined to make something of himself and he did, buckling down and studying hard. He was also committed politically, fighting hard for veterans and for progressive causes.
