John Maples

 “Maples, John E. SR., 56 of Madeira Beach died Saturday (Jan 29, 2005) at St. Anthony’s Hospital, St. Petersburg.  He was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., and came here in 1972 from West Lafayette, Ind.  He was an owner and operator of Barfield and Indian River citrus groves.  He received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and attended Stetson University School of Law.  He was a member of Seminole Lakes Country Club and was a past commander of the Gulfport Yacht Club, where he was a competitive catamaran sailor.  He also was an active soccer and basketball coach in the Seminole area.  Survivors include his wife of seven years, Carol; a son, John E. Jr., Palm Harbor; two stepsons, Jordan E. Stewart, Clearwater, and Russell Zitzelberg, Dunedin; a stepdaughter, Erin L. Kuhnsman, Indian Rocks Beach; a grandson; and four step-grandchildren.
